We’ve got a Flip Mino HD Camcorder to give away

This entry was posted on Friday, January 29th, 2010 at 21:42

After reviewing the Flip Mino HD Camcorder 4Gb, we decided it would be such a useful product for our business members to capture short business videos on, that we want to give one away!

All you have to do is link a business video from YouTube, Vimeo or Viddler to your Loopthing profile, and on the Friday the 5th of Feb we will select what we consider to be the best business video that will receive the product.

We know it’s a slight catch 22 that you need to have the camera first, so you’ll have to improvise if you’re not already equipped.

So link your videos now, or sign up to do so if you’re not already a member.

If any other member would like to verify their twitter account and join the list just login to do so. If you don’t yet communicate through twitter why not read a bit about the business benefits of using the network.

A quick note to wish all our members a Happy Christmas. We were going to release a nice video Christmas greeting, but alas could not get it complete in time. Maybe a nice New Year’s message will be more suiting.

Enjoy the next couple of days with some nice food, family and friends.

Loopthing London

This entry was posted on Wednesday, December 16th, 2009 at 21:24

We have now set our sights on London’s business community to grow and expand the Loopthing network by encouraging some of the UK’s foremost web engaging businesses to join our ever expanding network.  This is intended not only to show the openness and media surrounding these businesses, but also to provide a platform by which less web focused businesses can learn how to harness new web media.

London as a city has many top social media acclamations – Twitter, Facebook and Digg all claim the city to be their most popular location. For us this is an extremely interesting market to focus on. To what extent London businesses cater to and capitalise on these sites popularity is what we aim to identify.

One of the key objectives of the Loopthing network is to help improve our members overall web presence through media provision, analysis, support, and helpful connections. Therefore we are confident that learning and sharing the information from this market is a key step in catering to our members needs.

The Loopthing OpenScore – Static vs Dynamic Score

This entry was posted on Friday, November 6th, 2009 at 13:03

The OpenScore is a direct measurement of the online presence and success of a company over a period of time. It is calculated by extracting the average of the dynamic and the static score of a company over a 30 day period.

Below you will see the main differences between these two types of scores.

The sources

We are fetching information from various 3rd party sites. The way we calculate and weight the information we’re collecting from these sites is proprietary, confidential and requires continuous assessment. But, in terms of informing you about how your company’s online presence performs and how it should be improved, we won’t be that discreet.

Here is a list of the sites we’re currently fetching information from, in order to produce the OpenScore that is available for you right now.

-          Alexa

-          Bing

-          Compete

-          Digg

-          Facebook

-          Flickr

-          Google

-          LinkedIn

-          Loopthing

-          Photobucket

-          StumbleUpon

-          Techcrunch

-          Technorati

-          Tweetmeme

-          Twitpic

-          Twitter

-          Viddler

-          Vimeo

-          Yahoo

-          YouTube

The static score

The static score is comprised by the information extracted from a few different sources, and it is calculated once a week. The extracted information is usually information which doesn’t change very often and it’s not variable over a short period of time.

E.g. the number of backlinks inside Google’s search engine. This value doesn’t change too often considering the amount of time it takes Google to update this information.

The dynamic score

The dynamic score reflects the activity of a business in more dynamic environments, where constant activity monitoring is required (e.g. posting updates on Twitter, or the growth in views for a viral YouTube video).

This score is calculated once a day, or even more often in order to reflect the current status of the company’s involvement with the monitored 3rd party websites. The data we’re extracting is compared with what we have already recorded in order to decide if the dynamic score changes in a positive direction.

The OpenScore graph

Here are some characteristics of the OpenScore graph:

  • Because the static score is calculated once a week, the static OpenScore graph doesn’t have major fluctuations compared to the dynamic score which changes on a daily basis.
  • There is no negative value for the static or the dynamic scores.
  • Data can be visually or data served chronologically starting from the 27th of October, 2009
  • A detailed breakdown of each analyzed service component is soon to be available within the premium OpenScore features on Loopthing.

We’ve launched!

This entry was posted on Tuesday, October 27th, 2009 at 13:49

Our Mission: To provide businesses with the space and tools that allows them to interact with their existing customers while giving them the opportunity to generate new ones.

After 5 months in beta we’ve finally reached that moment in time where we can officially launch Loopthing! Yippee!!!

Ever since we arrived on the scene back on April 7th there have been big things happening in the background. Like every website that arrives on the web in beta, it was a chance for us to dip our toes in the water. It gave us an opportunity to see how far we had progressed and where we needed to go! There were numerous issues that needed to be addressed in order to improve the perforce and scalability of Loopthing.

I’m glad to say that after some long days and nights we believe we are ready to take the next step forward.

One of the most helpful developments is the vastly improved search functionality. You can search through the site membership much easier with hugely improved results. Additional features have also been added for members in the dashboard area that enhance a member’s ability to manage accounts.

Youtube, Vimeo, Viddler, Flickr and Twitter are some of the biggest names out there when it comes to social media, and rightly so. All for are valuable tools that allow a brilliant interaction between the user and the web. Loopthing now supports all five services, thus allowing users to import media from their favorite platforms.

OpenScore Unveiled

Today’s launch is made all the more exciting as we can finally lift the curtain on our first on-site business application, namely OpenScore. OpenScore is an application that we have developed that enables businesses to monitor the effectiveness of their social media campaigns.

How to measure performance and the return on investment (ROI) associated with social media and overall web activity has been an issue that has been concerning businesses more and more as they take their marketing efforts online at an ever increasing rate. OpenScore is an application that will assist you in your web analytics by presenting you with a detailed breakdown of how your business brand is performing online.

The technology works by analyzing a number of factors and data from some of the most relevant social media sources across the web such as Facebook, Twitter, RSS, Google, Digg, StumpleUpon, Blogs, Media files (video, audio, imagery) to name but a few. Specifically factors such as activity rate/presence on internet; time; level of visibility to others; the amount of media files they upload; the amount of information they provide about themselves and the amount of people talking about them on the Internet are some of the most important factors analyzed. Each factor carries its own weight in order to provide a comprehensive analysis of online activity.

Not only will OpenScore show you how you have been doing on the social web, it will also suggest to you where you should be going. Customized advice and detailed statistics will be available to all members that avail of OpenScore that will point you in the direction of a successful marketing campaign online.

We will be putting the initial features of the OpenScore live tonight, with an update on the timeline and detail for the 3 levels of analysis through our live webcast tomorrow the 28th October at 2pm.

The Loopthing Team
