5 ways to improve your social presence

1. Tell people who you are!

It’s one of the first things people are going to ask themselves when they come across your profile so it’s important that you tell them. Like the say, first impressions last so why not make it a good one?

Having a complete profile is one of the simplest things you can do to help make a good impression. On your profile there are five tabs at the top, four of which you can add personal content to straight away. These include the business info, media files, files repository and business hours tabs. Giving a clear picture of who you are and what you do will do wonders, an empty profile will not.

2. Enjoy quantity and quality.

Good content speaks for itself and is recognised. Having a large amount of content full of keywords might have been all well and good in the past but nowadays people are looking for quality content as well as quantity.

If you’ve got a lot of knowledge in certain areas then by all means share it with others. They will appreciate what you’ve got to say and over time you may even become known as a ‘knowledge source’ of sorts.

3. Engage with social media

Social media has turned the way people search the web on its head. A few years ago all people did was search for words in search engines and read articles. Nowadays people are in the YouTube era and are very used to searching for videos, audio and pictures related to what they are looking for.

These three media formats give you a platform to communicate directly to the user on the other end. A well thought out video, an informative audio commercial and a descriptive image can be the difference between a user deciding to contact your business or simply moving on.

With the advances in technology over the last few years producing media is simple. Everyone has a digital camera these days, or has a friend that has one, so taking pictures and video is not as expensive as 10 years ago. Audio recorders are also readily available also so there’s no reason not to make a move into social media circles.

4. Participation

Communication with the community around you is important. In the offline world this happens naturally without us even thinking about it yet sometimes when people come online they forget about it.

Participation and engagement with the loopthing community around will help to increase your social reputation. People will come to see that you are an active user and are more likely to engage you also. A profile page that has not received or sent any messages is like a shop with a closed sign on the front door.

5. Visibility

A great profile with plenty of quality content and social media is great but it’s no use if people aren’t able to find you. Your profile visibility describes how easily other users are able to find their way to your profile. There are a few ways in which you can quickly help to improve your profile visibility.

As I spoke about in yesterdays blog “Tagging: A powerful asset” tagging is one of the simplest ways for you to help people find you on Loopthing. By having keywords that are descriptive of your business you increase the odds of your profile being shown in search results.

Having many links to your profile spread throughout the web is another way of increasing your visibility. Create these links in a natural way by contributing helpful content to conversations. A link to your profile is a valuable asset, but those seen as spam will be seen in a bad light so it’s best to get it right from the beginning.

Producing quality media content that people like can be a quick way of getting you to the top of the video, audio and picture ratings. You would be amazed how fast this can boost your visibility. Put a bit of thought into your productions and you might just see your ratings soar!

These are just a number of techniques to improving your social presence. I hope you find them helpful.
